Data Dictionary

This dataset combines public data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System and the US Census Bureau’s American Community Service in an index of racial and ethnic representativeness of US postsecondary education institutions. The data set is originally sourced from Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System and US Census American Community Survey and was developed at the Urban Institute—made available under the ODC-BY 1.0 Attribution License. There are two data sets that are based on 4 years and 2 years college representativeness. 4-year college representativeness contains 34 variables and the 2-year college representativeness contains 30 variables. The variables are classified and listed below.

Categorical Variables

year	date	Marks the years data was recorded for the institution.
fips_ipeds	varchar	Represents State FIPS code.
inst_name	char	Represents name of the institution.
slevel	integer	represents Institution Level (4 = "four-year" 2 = "two-year").
twocat	char	Represents two-year Institution Category.
fourcat	char	Represents four-year Institution Category.
public	boolean	Determines if it is a public institution or not.
forprofit	boolean	Represents State FIPS code
private	boolean	Determines if the institution is a Private Non-Profit Institution or not.
selective	boolean	Shows the degree of selectivity an academic institution has.
more_selective	boolean	A yes/no of if the institution has a tendency for being more selective for that year.
non_selective	boolean	A yes/no of if the institution has a tendency for being non-selective for that year.
